Boring stuff
The important small print, in one place.
1. Privacy notice
Draft, 16 September 2026. Usual Suspects is run by Georgia Andrieux, a sole trader in Jersey, who is the data controller. Contact: hello@playusualsuspects.uk.
Whose data we hold
Hosts (the person who fills in the build page), suspects (the people the host tells us about) and testers. Usual Suspects is for adults only: the host and every suspect must be 18 or over. If you are a suspect, you have the same rights as the host. Email us and we'll help.
What we collect and why
- From the host: your email address (to send your case), your confirmations and when you gave them (to show the case was built with permission), and bank transfer details if you pay that way.
- About each suspect: first name and nickname, age bracket, pronouns, how a witness would describe them, simple appearance details, the everyday details the host chose, relationships between suspects, and special notes. We use these only to personalise one fictional case file.
- Feedback after you play: a star rating and anything you choose to tell us, kept to improve future cases. Please don't include personal details in it.
- What we never collect: real phone numbers, social media accounts, home addresses, photos or card details. Every phone number, account, victim, place and crime in a case is made up.
- Sensitive information: we don't want it and we don't use it. See what we don't use. Our build page flags anything like this, and a real person checks every case. We never work anything out about a suspect from the details given, including from relationships.
This site sets no cookies and runs no analytics or tracking. We don't sell your data or use it for advertising.
Who helps us
- Supabase (EU, Frankfurt): stores case details.
- Vercel: hosts the website.
- Resend (EU): sends our automatic internal emails, with a secure link to the case file, not the file itself.
- Google Workspace: our email inbox.
Some of these may process data outside Jersey and the UK, including in the United States, under their data-processing terms.
How long we keep it
Case details are deleted 30 days after your case is completed (a correct accusation, or two wrong ones), or 12 months after it was made if it's never completed. After that we keep only your case code and whether it was used, which contains no personal details. We keep an anonymised note of cases we couldn't build, and your feedback, to improve future cases.
Your rights
Under the Data Protection (Jersey) Law 2018 and, where it applies, the UK GDPR, you can ask to see, correct, delete or restrict your data, or get a copy of it. Email hello@playusualsuspects.uk and we'll respond within one month. You can complain to the Jersey Office of the Information Commissioner (jerseyoic.org) or, in the UK, the ICO (ico.org.uk).
2. Who can play
Usual Suspects is for adults only. The person building the case and every suspect in it must be 18 or over.
3. What we don't use
Please leave these out. Our build page flags words linked to these topics and asks you to rephrase. It can't catch everything, which is why a real person checks every case.
- Health: illnesses, conditions, diagnoses, medication, mental health, therapy, pregnancy, disability or hospital stays.
- Money: debts, loans, benefits, salaries or money worries.
- Love lives: dating history, affairs, break-ups, divorces or anything sexual.
- Anything criminal: arrests, convictions, prison, drugs, violence or abuse.
- Work trouble: sackings, disciplinaries, grievances or redundancies.
- Beliefs and identity: religion, race or ethnicity, sexuality, immigration status or political views.
- Real contact details: phone numbers, social media accounts, home addresses, photos, card or bank details.
- Anything private or embarrassing: secrets, private messages, or anything a suspect wouldn't want shared with the group.
We ask how a witness would describe each suspect, only so the CCTV and statements read naturally. We never work anything out about a suspect from the details you give us, including from relationships.
4. How long we keep your details
Your case details are deleted 30 days after your case is completed, or 12 months after it was made if it's never completed. To have them deleted sooner, email hello@playusualsuspects.uk.
5. Terms and refunds
Coming soon. We'll publish our terms and refund policy before we take any payments beyond our test cases.
